I greet my trainees as they prepare for training. I talk with them to get a barometer of how their day went and what type of mood/mindset they are in. Next, I strongly encourage stretching in order to prevent muscle pulls, then we train for battle!!
For Beginning Athletes: First thing is learning proper stance, balance, agility, testing footwork, hand placements, and first 2 steps. That is repeated repetitiously so that athletes can put themselves in proper position to compete effectively.
For Intermediate Athletes: Agility, footwork, proper stance, starts, hand placements, and more progressive movements and hand combat beyond the first 2 steps.
For Advanced Athletes: Agility, footwork, proper stance, starts, focus more on getting off the ball, hand combat, moving aggressively towards target, finishing each play through every progression, encourages more focus on technique and skill when fighting fatigue, encourages to be a leader amongst his peers..
End each training encouraging athletes to make good decisions. Letting them know that football is a privilege and in order to play the sport, athletes have to make good life decisions in the home, school, and community!! Also, I encourage the parent(s)/guardian to hold their child accountable and to report any issue they may have so that it could be addressed upon the next training session.
